The state stocks the lake each spring and fall with three different species of trout: brook, brown, and rainbow. In addition, other popular freshwater species are abundant here! These include yellow perch, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass.

Ducks, geese, and other fish-eating creatures are sure to make an appearance for their try at fishing!

Another type of popular fishing for the area is shellfishing! The area is known for opportunities to catch quahogs, blue crabs, lobsters, and bay scallops!

Land Days

For the days on land, there is still plenty to do!

The Big Sandy Recreation Area has something for the whole family! There are two playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, a softball diamond, a Soccer/Utility Field, and picnic areas.

The newest facility at the park is a 26,000 square foot dog-friendly area to the west of the main parking lot. The dog park is separated into three areas: one for large dogs, one for small dogs, and one for shy or young dogs.

The dog area features water fountains and cooling pools for your dog to cool off and relax in! Of course, dogs are allowed in other areas while being leashed.

Golfers will be impressed by the local Bayberry Hills Golf Course, featuring an 18 hole course of beautiful landscaping and welcoming staff.

The town of Yarmouth always has something to do for those days spent in town. Fun places to visit are the Whydah Pirate Museum, Cape Cod Inflatable Park, Antiques Center of Yarmouth, Putter’s Paradise, Tingles Nightclub, and much more within 10 to 20 minutes from the lake!
